Photo by @GerdLudwig. When Earth was viewed from space years ago, the brightest spots weren’t major cities, but instead the gas flares in Siberia. These flares contributed to the destruction of the ozone layer. Here, light from two flares illuminated the Siberian night sky. Without official permission to photograph the flares, I had to fight my way through often waist high snow, progressing at about 2-3 yards a minute.
