Big news! Repost from Mari Smith
Newsflash! Facebook is rolling out a new SEARCH feature to find posts on a Page! Woohoo — this is a long overdue feature and helps to make your Page content more like a useful blog that visitors can search.
Facebook is also testing the same feature on personal profiles. Of course, for profiles the feature is privacy-aware. Facebook states: “We’re piloting a way to search for people’s posts from within their profiles. You can only search for posts that you can already see on their Timelines.”
So, are these new search features encroaching on Google’s territory? Possibly, but the impact may not be noticed for a long time to come. Personal profiles are still inside the ‘walled garden’ (users have to be logged in to see/interact with content). And, although content on Pages is public, users also still have to log in to interact with the Page and content.
But, the new Best Professional Services and Popular Places directories are totally public and easily used, wether you are logged in to Facebook or not. These are being quietly tested and it will sure be interesting to see the impact on Yelp. Perhaps Google, Amazon.com, and Angie’s List list, too!
